Wines
The third of France’s greatest wine regions alongside Bordeaux and Burgundy and still the most underrated and undervalued. The Syrah grape which makes most of the quality wines in the North of the region is better known elsewhere in the world as Shiraz. The South includes the famous Chateauneuf and now lots of other regions producing excellent wine, some of which find its way into Cotes du Rhône and some is bottled individually such as Cotes du Ventoux.
During the 1960s and 1970s, the firm of Paul Jaboulet led the way in raising world awareness of the great quality to be found in the Rhône. Crozes Hermitage Thalabert and Côte-Rôtie are top wines.
