House & Entry Level Wines

The increases in excise duty and the variable exchange rates suffered at the start of 2009 has resulted in the wine team once again re-evaluating the improved range of House and Entry level wines we are offering this year. The search is on in the UK On-Trade for even more value for money wines to sell at below £12.95 a bottle. There are few wines that can now be purchased for below £3 a bottle, however, we are still able to offer our Versare blends at this price point and the varietals at just over £3 representing terrific value for money.

With many businesses looking for an increased range of wines that are attractive to sell by the glass we have searched hard to find you new, interesting and tasty wines that give you something new and different to offer. The wines of Wildwood, Le Sanglier and Vina Sutil come into this category and are certainly worth your consideration this year. We have also developed our own dedicated label for the Vistamar Range – Simplicity – which is exclusive to H.B. Clark. The wines are exactly the same as the standard Vistamar varietals, but give us – and you our customers – more exclusivity. The Water’s Edge Range of wines have been developed into Larks’ Ridge - a range of our own specially developed labels to give you a better point of difference against wines. We have introduced Tempo, our own Pinot Grigio and Pinot Grigio Rosé to give you two extra popular wines also 100% H.B Clark.

All in all, H.B. Clark are extremely pleased to offer you this improved and extended range of House and Entry Level wines in a year that is important to retain profitability, yet offer your customers greater choice and even more incentive to visit your outlet.

  Simplicity (Chile)
Chilean wines have been one of the great success stories for the wine trade and H.B.Clark is no exception. We first listed the Vistamar range in 75cl. bottles in 2005 and they have proved very successful indeed. Eighteen months ago, we added a range of Single Serve Vistamar. We believe that the time has come to offer existing and potential customers an added advantage at no extra cost. We have agreed with Vistamar that the Simplicity range will be exclusive to H.B Clark in the North of England. The Simplicity juice in Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rosé, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon will be the same as before but there will be a new, attractive label and the guaranteed increased exclusivity. The Simplicity range will also become available in Single Serve size. The H.B.Clark wine team is very excited by being now able to offer customers the same quality products safe in the knowledge that the Simplicity range is only available to the On-Trade in the North of England from H.B.Clark.

Larks’ Ridge
The success of our Wine Development programme over the last four years has led to a number of advantages for our customers in these difficult times for the On-Trade.

In particular, the increase in volumes sold has enabled us to reduce some of the price increases forced on us by Chancellors’ exchange rates and rises in the costs of wine, glass and transport. During this period, our strategy has remained the supply of well-made and very good value wines which are as exclusive as possible.

The introduction of the Larks’ Ridge range is a very significant step in our Wine Development programme. There are seven Larks’ Ridge wines, all from the New World and all of excellent entry-level quality. They offer a combination of the tried and trusted such as Blush from California, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile to the rarer such as the Reserve Chardonnay and Pinotage Merlot from South Africa.

All the Larks’ Ridge wines have plenty of up-front fruit and show well the characters of their constituent grape varieties.

The juice has been carefully selected by our wine team for quality and value for money and we will be able to oversee the future development of the range extension as well as the quality. The Larks’ Ridge range is totally exclusive to H.B. Clark and to H.B. Clark’s customers.
