Bordeaux
Wines
Bordeaux once belonged to the
English crown, hence one of the reasons for
it being known as ‘The Englishman’s
wine.’ Indeed the name 'Claret' traditionally
used for red wine from Bordeaux all over the
world was a U.K. word adopted to describe a
light red wine, made by blending red and white
wines - now an illegal practice!
The range of wines produced in
Bordeaux varies from House wines to the aristocrats
of world wine such as Ch. Latour or Ch. d’Yquem
whose greatest vintages may fetch £1,000
a bottle or more. Not surprising that our clarets
concentrate on the value for money wines but
if you are interested in a particular vintage
or chateau, we can source it for you - do not
hesitate to ask!
