Beaujolais
Beaujolais, like Burgundy or Bordeaux, is an area in which different wines are grown AND a name applied to the wines
which can be confusing. There are ten different villages or crus in Beaujolais with differing characters and that does not
include Beaujolais Nouveau now very much rarer than twenty years ago. What does unite the crus is that they are all made from the same grape, the Gamay. This produces very fruity red wine meant in nearly all cases to be drunk young and often at its best served cool with its fruit unjammed. The last few vintages have all provided really tasty wines.
